BS (Hons) in Textile Science

Rationale

The main objective of the textile sciences program is to make the textile graduate a creative problem-solver using latest tools of textile to design novel, functional textiles and processes. The emphasis is on process and product development using textile materials. The graduates acquire know-how in traditional textile manufacturing as well as in technical textiles. The coursework, final project and general studies give graduates the required problem solving skills, critical thinking ability and communication capability for succeeding in their careers.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the BS in Textile Sciences program, graduates will:

  • have a solid foundation in basic sciences
  • be able to demonstrate the ability to design and develop Textiles and Fashion articles;
  • be able to work in teams and appreciate the value of diversity in team-based problem solving;
  • demonstrate integrity and ethics in professional practice and in life;
  • demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively

Specializations

The following specializations are offered in BS in Textile Sciences:

  1. Yarn Manufacturing
  2. Fabric Manufacturing (Weaving and Knitting)
  3. Textile Chemical Processing
  4. Garment and Apparel Manufacturing
  5. Technical Textiles

Entry Requirements

A-Levels with Math or Pre-Engineering with minimum 45% marks is required (45% marks in Matric /O-Level is also mandatory).

Note

  • DAE Diploma holders in relevant field can also apply if they have 60% or above marks in DAE and Matric respectively.
  • If FSc/A Level is done with Biology, then Pre-Math will be compulsory for the student/s.
